Knott's 60th Anniversary

Today's post is from a 20 page insert that was printed in the Los Angeles Times on July 27, 1980. Knott's was celebrating their 60th Anniversary that year which means that this year can be considered the 90th!
The cover shows the Stage Coach on it's trail lined with eucalyptus trees. I sure do miss those trees. The Corkscrew looks a bit out of scale in this photo. Is that the Roaring 20's back there or the Land of the Giants?

Here is a happy birthday from the mouse himself. Love the literary reference!

Just a couple of images for today, I will be posting more from this issue in the near future. There is plenty of good stuff inside including an article on Bud Hurlbut, a behind the scenes article on the performers of Ghost Town, and the announcement of the coming new attraction "Wacky Soapbox Racers"..

Take care and Thanks for readin'

That's funny - Never noticed how they dropped the over sized image of the Corkscrew back there. Would enjoy reading the article on Bud again.

Funny that we both dug up and posted this paper item from 30 years ago. Yep, great minds think alike.....or it's because we're still pumped up about Knott's from last weekend's special event....or both!

I'm sorry that I didn't get to meet you last Sunday!

Hi LTK, I wanted to thank you for the tip about where to find the Knott's attraction posters. I went to the park yesterday after work to activate my annual pass and I found the Train and Mine Ride posters at the General Store just like you said. Do you know if they sell the Sky Jump, Soap Box Racers or any of the other posters elsewhere in the park? Cordy's Corner? The park was closing, so I didn't have too much time to search.

Only the Calico Railroad (Train) and Calico Mine Ride posters were reprinted in 2002 for the 50th anniversary of the Calico Railroad. There were eight different posters created in total for the 60th anniversary of the Knott's. Including Wacky Soap Box, Sky Jump, Calico Saloon, Log Ride, Stagecoach and the 60th anniversary collage poster. I will inquire into the possibility of reprinting the others.

Let's Talk Knott's said...

I have only seen the train posters for sale at the farm. There are some of the other attraction posters in the north window display of Virginia's gift shop but none for sale. There are some coasters that can be purchased at the Miner's Bank that have poster art on them. I have one of the Calico Saloon and I think the other is of the Calico Railway. I'd love to have a complete set of all eight posters. I will keep my fingers crossed that maybe there will be a series of reprints.
